Though we do buy and sell lots of interesting items, we love hunting for the great treasures in the world of literature. We enjoy providing collectors and readers with fascinating books. What types of books do you buy?
We often get this question “What types of books do you buy?“. It’s really tough for us to answer that question because there are so many different types of books and publications that we are interested in. Condition is an important factor for us but the following is a short list of some of the types of items we may be interested in.
Books and publications we may buy:
- Technical publications or books: (some examples) Engineering, aviation, locomotive, mechanical or engine design, medical, geophysical and mining, high level mathematics and science, design, architecture, automotive and large equipment manuals, family history or genealogy, ETC.
- Rare and collectors items: First editions or first printings, limited printings, signed editions, box sets, fine binding, early or rare comics and publications, illustrated editions, etc.
- Vintage and Antique: Early science fiction, leather bound, mystery and detective, early fantasy magazines / publications (Weird Tales, detective / pulp fiction, Doc Savage), Alcoholics Anonymous (1940’s), early adult or men’s magazines, beat generation publications, fashion books or magazines (some pre 1970’s, Victorian era / pre 1900’s), National Geographic (pre-1920’s), pre-1950’s with original dust jackets, and many items that were published before 1900
- Religious & Spiritual: Commentaries, sermons and lectures, bibles, study bibles, history, Buddhism, metaphysical, occult, and others
- Other: Art / photography books (Taschen publishing and others), hobbies and crafts, esoteric, Disney and cartoon / toy related, science fiction, history and biographies, cinema, fashion, original comic and video game artwork, niche books (i.e. fly-fishing, remote control, models, vehicle building, racing, Lionel trains; locomotive related Rio Grande, Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, etc.) and much more
- Magazines: (Some newer but mostly older vintage or antique) fantasy or science fiction related, art, fashion, comics, Time Magazines, pre-1920’s National Geographic, unusual or bizarre, rare adult / risque, Victorian era, foreign, 1950’s Playboy and Playboy art or calendars, ETC.
- Unique or Unusual: Occult, magic, tarot cards or books, Freemasons, Masonic, Knights Templar, strange, bizarre or strange / underground (many genres from horror, humor or adult related)
- Comics: Many different titles between the 1920’s – 1960’s and earlier – original comic art, Action Comics, Detective Comics, Weird Tales, Haunt of Fear, Batman, Amazing Fantasy / Spider-Man, Tales of Suspense, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, Flash, Star Wars, & MANY MORE. Good quality ungraded or CGC / graded comics, signed or rare
We also are interested in advertising / manuals or publications for early sports cars, trains / locomotive and aircraft, tractors and farming equipment, military, and many other types of vintage advertising items or books or ephemera published during WWII (1930’s – 1940’s) or earlier.
Books and publications we may NOT buy:
- Common items: Mass market paperbacks, romance, National Geographic (1930’s – current), book club editions / BCE (unless mint / new condition), western books, readers digest, common fiction books (Steven King, Dean Koontz, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, James Patterson, Louis L’Amour, Zane Gray, etc.). We may buy some of these types of authors if they are signed, limited or leather bound editions.
- Typical Magazines: We do buy unique or early issues, however, we do not purchase most modern or common magazines. We do NOT buy common Playboy or Penthouse. However, we do buy more obscure or unusual vintage and antique adult related issues.
- Poor Condition: Generally we do not buy any items that are in less than good condition. Please Note: What we would consider good condition varies drastically based on the type of item and age. An 18th century medical publication (or another similar antique book) with some spotting, discoloration and moderate cover wear could be considered good for it’s age whereas a signed edition of a Steven King novel should be in much better condition.
